Ambrose Benally Sr., passed away peacefully at his home in Kirtland, NM on August 11, 2023. He was born on December 10, 1935, in Crownpoint, NM. Ambrose was a dedicated family man who spent 61 years making memories with his wife Mae C. Benally and his family. Ambrose was a hardworking individual who dedicated 35 years of his life to working as a Dragline Operator at BHP Mine. Additionally, he was a successful Rancher, Rodeo Tie Down Roper & Team Roper and overall Cowboy.
Ambrose's passion for his work was evident throughout his career. His commitment and dedication to excellence earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike. Education played an essential role in Ambrose's life. He attended Albuquerque Indian School, where he gained valuable knowledge and skills. This educational foundation contributed significantly to his success in both his professional and personal life.
In addition to his illustrious career, Ambrose served in the Army, proudly defending his country during his military service. His service reflected his patriotism and love for his home.
Ambrose will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a loving family and countless friends who cherish the memories they shared together. He is survived by his wife Mae C. Benally; sons: Ambrose Benally Jr., Vecenti (Lenora) Benally, Aaron (Betty) Benally, Virgil (Rebecca) Benally, Kenny (Eudora) Benally; daughters: Eletta Zmudzinski and Kevin Wickstron, Tonya (Eugene) Charley, Delphine (James) Purcell; brothers: Leonard (Judy) Benally, Glen Benally; grandchildren: Travis and Taylor Benally; Chris Medford; Brayden Arthur; Christina Klagenberg; Cory Charley; Nicole Clark; Erica Benally; Tanner, Nizhoni, and Ella Benally; Johanna Purcell; Kaelah and Kaeden Benally; Sheree Amby; Courtney John; Joshua Naljahih; Quinnoltin Alfred; Tanya Tessay, as well as great-grandchildren: Toby Walkingstick, Mia Logan, Maya Arthur; Declan, Dakoda, and Juniper Medford; Megan and David Benalli, Anthony and Cohen Kell; Ikaika, Kaimana, Bruno, Malia Amby, Clemintine Naljahih; Emma, Erin, Aurora Clark; Neveah Begay; Ralph, Reanne, Rylie Parson.
Ambrose was preceded in death by his son Alexander Benally; granddaughter Kiona Begay; grandson Perry Alexander Benally; parents Jack and Annie Benally; brothers Raymond Benally, Herman Benally; sisters Mable Chischilly, Mary Harrison. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents Delewoshen and Glenna Benally-Begay.
A funeral service to honor Ambrose's life will take place on August 17, 2023. The service will be held at Farmington Funeral Home in Farmington, NM. The start time is scheduled for 10:00 AM local time followed by internment at Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery at noon.
Ambrose's friends and family will gather to pay their respects to this remarkable individual who has impacted their lives in so many positive ways. His legacy of hard work and dedication will continue to inspire those who strive for excellence.
