Barry Rodrigue

Barry Rodrigue, a dedicated educator and passionate coach, passed away on May 25, 2024, in Farmington, NM. Born on February 22, 1942, in Houston, TX, Barry was the beloved son of Cyrus Leon Rodrigue and Vietta Anne Arcemont Rodrigue.

Barry pursued higher education with distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, minoring in English, from Rice University on June 5, 1965. During his time at Rice, he was on the President's Honor Roll. Prior to this, Barry attended the New Mexico Military Institute, where he received an Associate of Arts degree in 1962 and was recognized as a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American.

Barry devoted 40 years to teaching, beginning as an elementary PE teacher before discovering his true calling as an English teacher. His commitment to education left a lasting impact on countless students, many of whom expressed their gratitude over the years for his dedication in preparing them for college and life beyond. Barry's enthusiasm for teaching and his students' success was evident in every lesson he delivered.

Beyond the classroom, Barry's love for sports was profound. He coached AAU Track and served as a high school track, cross country, and basketball coach for 35 years, fostering athletic excellence and sportsmanship in his athletes.

A man of deep faith and community service, Barry was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and served as Grand Knight for two years, demonstrating his commitment to charity and fraternity.

Barry is preceded in death by his parents and sister Constance A. Rodrigue Clanton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Barbara Louise Corazzi Rodrigue, his daughter Elizabeth Dawn Rodrigue Cline, Brother John Robert Rodrigue (Sarah), Grandsons, Casey Alan Cline (Kasandra), Adam Durant Cline, and two great-grandchildren Trace Alan Cline and Kali Nikole Fuller. As well as countless members of the community whose lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Barry's life on June 21, 2024 at Farmington Funeral Home from 3:00-4:00. A Mass of Christian Burial and inurnment on June 24, 2024 at Sacred Heart Parish in Farmington 9:30-11:30. Barry Rodrigue's legacy is one of unwavering commitment to education, sports, and community service. His influence and spirit will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, students, and colleagues.
