Betty Foster

Betty Foster, 81, of Kirtland passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11th, 2018 in Kirtland surrounded by family. She was born December 13, 1936 in Broadstairs, Kent England, to Trilby (Collard) and William Berry. She was the 12th of 13 Children.

She met her soulmate Lawrence (Doc) Foster in 1952 while he was stationed in England with United States Air Force. On August 4th, 1954 she left her beloved England and family to come to America to start a new life and family with her husband. They resided in Denver, CO and Waterflow, NM while raising two daughters. In 1975 they moved to Kirtland, NM and spent the rest of their lives in the same house.

Betty was a Homemaker until 1980 when she and Doc opened Doc’s motorcycles and accessories. They started a club called the Drifters and traveled all over the country with them until their retirement.

She loved to bake and do ceramics. Most of her recipes were from memory, she very rarely relied on a cookbook. Ceramics being her favorite hobby consumed many of her hours. She spent 35 years cheerfully humming and singing while painting them. Her favorite thing to paint was Santa Clauses. She would spend all year painting them and then at Christmas time have each family pick one to take home.

Betty was proud of her family and the size it had gotten to. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch visiting with family when they came to visit sipping on her sprite with a straw and offering one to anyone who was there.

She will be missed greatly but continues to live on with her traditions and traits that have been passed down.

She is preceded in death by Her Husband Lawrence Doc Foster, Parents Trilby and William Berry, Siblings; Jim, Charley, Sydney, Leonard, Dudley, Bill, Johnny, Dora, Trilby and Emma. Son-in-law Lance Payne.

She is survived by her siblings; Lorna and Bluey. Daughters Sherry Lynn (Michael) Thomas and Barbara Gail Payne. Grandchildren; Doug (Megan) Blair, Wendell (Josie) Cockrell, William (Kimberly)Cockrell, Tobey (Natane) Cockrell, Tim Cockrell, Heather (David) Baker, Holly (Curtis) Sletta Dudley (Nichole) Payne and Jessica Payne. 23 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
