Clarence Lavern Jones

Clarence L. Jones, 81, of La Plata, New Mexico, passed away on October 21, 2024, in Farmington, New Mexico. Clarence was born on February 21, 1943, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to parents Archie C. Jones and Wilma M. (Leonard) Jones.

Clarence attended Parks High School in Nebraska and graduated in 1961. He went on to attend McCook Community College and graduated with a Business Degree in 1964. In 1965 Clarence married Kitty Hayward, to this union two daughters were born, Rochelle and Monica

His career began in 1964 with Burlington Northern Railroad, as well as with Skelly Oil Company. In 1969 he began to work at the Adolph Coors Company in Golden, Colorado, which was his most enjoyable position as he worked as a buyer, lasting 23 years. Working at Coors was Clarence’s most proud and endearing season of his professional life. After leaving Coors, Clarence owned and operated The Packaging Store in Grand Junction, Colorado. Clarence retired in 2017 from San Juan County, New Mexico.

Clarence enjoyed washing cars and making them pristine (detailing had a whole other meaning to him), mathematics, finance, building things, traveling, his friends and family and of course watching political commentary on Fox News.

Clarence was extremely organized and orderly. He enjoyed many friends and all kinds of food and occasionally a cigar.

It brings such joy and peace to know that Clarence is in the glorious presence of his Savior Jesus Christ.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents Wilma Jones, Archie Jones, Gerald (Jiggs) Hayward, Della Hayward, and brother Jerry Jones.

Clarence is survived by his wife Kitty (Hayward) Jones, daughters Rochelle (Brian) Kling, and Monica (James) Bell, grandchildren Jake (Stephanie) Kling, Mara (Evan) Balthazor, Cody (Sarah) Bosick, Corissa (Mike) Cygan, and 7 great grandchildren Anya, Reid, Sadie, Marshall, Raegan, Luke & Samuel.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:00am, at the Freedom Community Baptist Church, 1306 HWY 170, PO BOX 222 La Plata, New Mexico, 87418 Pastor Joe (Slim) Lambright will be officiating. A luncheon will follow. Honorary Pallbearers are Ed Sellers, James (Jimmy) Bell, Brian Kling, Jake Kling, Cody Bosick, Mike Cygan, and Evan Balthazor.
