Dawn Derwin

Dawn Ruth Murray Derwin, 33, formerly of Farmington, NM went to meet our Heavenly Father at
1:39pm Sunday after complications from blood clots in the brain.
Dawn was born in Farmington, NM on September 13, 1984 to Douglas and Waunita Murray --
long-time Farmington residents and business owners. Dawn was the middle child of 5 and is
survived by her sister Deanna Murray and brothers Daniel Murray and wife Jennifer, Douglas
Andrew Murray and wife Julie and Dillon Scott Murray as well as her parents.
Attending school in Farmington, Dawn graduated high school from Bible Baptist Shepherd
School in 2002. While working towards her nursing degree at UNM in Albuquerque, Dawn met
Roger Derwin. He says he and Dawn couldn’t stand each other at first, but her sassy spirit and
determination drew him to her. The couple married on February 11, 2006 in Albuquerque and
had 4 children over their 12 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband and daughters
Serenity 11 and Elizabeth 2 and sons, Jacob 10 and Isaac 4.
Dawn studied medicine and worked as a paramedic in both the ER and as a first responder for
Presbyterian Hospital. Dawn’s colleagues said she was always eager to learn, show new
medics the ropes and always could make people laugh and feel at ease.
In between being a dedicated mother, friend and coworker, Dawn continued to pursue an RN
degree and was set to graduate from CNM Community College in April. Learning of her passing,
Dawn’s professors reached out to the family, saying she would be honored during her classes’
graduation ceremony in April 2019. She will also be awarded her RN degree posthumously
during the ceremony. Dawn’s professors said she was rated top in her class and was a true help
to other students in the program.
Dawn is also survived by her paternal grandparents, many maternal and paternal aunts and
uncles, 14 nieces and nephews and 1 great-nephew -- all who will always hold Dawn close to
their hearts.

1111 S. Miller Farmington, NM. A viewing will be held from 11am-1pm. If you would like to
