Dona L. Kerr, age 79, resident of Farmington, NM passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, in Farmington, NM. Dona was born January 15, 1943, in Marysville, Mi to parents Donald Kerr and Leona Nixon. Dona was a veteran of the US Navy where she achieved officer rank. She earned a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University and completed many additional college courses during her lifetime. Prior to settling in New Mexico Dona worked in the private sector and served in the US Peace Corp for 15 years. During her time in the US Peace Corp, Dona was in Africa where she has many friends and God children today. Dona retired from Presbyterian Medical Services in Farmington, NM where she was most proud of her work on the harm reduction program (needle exchange, educational programming, and outreach). During her outreach to the homeless Dona would drive around handing out hats, gloves, food, and water to people on the street (this was funded out of her own pocket). She was also a member of PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), 4 Winds Recovery Center, and Total Behavioral Health Authority community boards. Dona volunteered San Juan Medical Center and Farmington Police Department Citizen's Police Academy Sycamore Community Center. Dona was active with the First Presbyterian Church and was a kind person with good heart. Dona was preceded in death by her parents Donald Kerr and Leona Nixon, brother Grant C. Nixon. Dona was survived by her nephew Brett (Kristein) Nixon, dear friends Kristine Carlson-Werito and Sheryl Spencer.
