Dorothy Jeanette Nichols

February 19, 1940 — March 23, 2025

Farmington

Dorothy Jeanette Nichols, 85, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on March 23, 2025, in Farmington, New Mexico. Jeanette was born on February 19, 1940, in Blanchard, Oklahoma, to parents Dezmer F. “Slim” Harris and Dorothy D. Harris (Freeman).

Jeanette graduated from Roswell High School in 1957 and moved to Farmington shortly after graduation. In 1960 she met and married the love of her life Larry Nichols and soon started their family.

Throughout her life she had many interests and hobbies including oil painting, hand crafting pottery, knitting, gardening and growing anything she could put into the soil. She farmed and raised sheep all while raising a family. She developed a breeding program for market show lambs and sold numerous show prospects to 4-H and FFA youth throughout New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and the Navajo Nation. It was her priority to provide affordable, competitive lambs to enable any 4-H or FFA youth an opportunity to learn and grow through the livestock program. Due to her dedication and support of 4-H and FFA throughout the years, the sheep show ring at the San Juan County Fair was honorably dedicated to her.

Jeanette was also co-owner of Four States Electric and retired from the Family business in 2020. During her time at Four States Electric, she ensured support for 4-H and FFA youth by actively supporting many County and State Fair Junior livestock sales. After retirement she continued her love for gardening and having her hands tending and nurturing anything she could grow in the soil as well as maintaining her dedication to San Juan County 4-H by serving on the Finance Board. Jeanette touched many lives throughout her lifetime and will be missed by her family, friends and community.

Jeanette is preceded by her parents Dezmer F. ”Slim” Harris and Dorothy D. Harris.

Jeanette is survived by her Husband Larry Nichols, Daughters Andrea Pettit (Warren), and Jody Burch, Son Roy Nichols, Brothers D. Jack Harris (Ann), Jim Harris (Judy), Sisters Diane Jones (Dick), Donna Jenkins, and many beloved Nieces and Nephews.

A Memorial Service will be determined at a later date.

Memorials and Donations may be made in memory of Jeanette to the San Juan County Fair Board Association to benefit San Juan County 4-H and FFA youth. Contact Darrin Church at Citizen’s Bank Trust Department, 500 West Broadway, Farmington, New Mexico.

The Nichols family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this incredibly difficult time.
