Edith Ahkeah Deleon

Our community sadly lost a pillar on Saturday, February 4, 2023 when Mrs. Edith Ahkeah Deleon passed away surrounded by loved ones. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched through her work done as a registered nurse, case manager and hospital supervisor at Northern Navajo Medical Center; where she lovingly served her community for 33 years. Edith is survived by her husband of 35 years Mr. Raul Martinez Deleon. Their son and four daughters: Herman Martinez (Susy Acosta-Martinez), Tanalia Yazzie (Aaron Harris), Melissa Frank (Retired Sgt. Shondale Lee, US Army), Olivia Deleon (SSgt. Jorge Cazares, US Air Force/Cpl, US Marine Corps), and Samara Deleon. 

Six grandchildren: Shinae (Ethan), Adriano, Sheriden, Isiah, Xabith, and Xamir. Four great grandchildren: Naniso , Lily, Avayah, and Greyson. 

Edith is survived by her sisters: Margaret Benally, Eva Henagarne, and Lora Benally. As well as her many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. 

Edith is preceded in death by her parents, former Chairman Sam Ahkeah and Doris Ahkeah; three brothers: Curtis Ahkeah, Robert Ahkeah and Rodger W. Ahkeah Sr.; five sisters: Mary Ahkeah, Lucy Ahkeah, Nora Ahkeah, Fannie Ahkeah, and Elenor Clah. 

The Deleon family invites you to celebrate the life of our beloved wife and mother on Friday February 10th with a viewing at Farmington funeral home from 9:30 am to 10:30 am 2111 W Apache st Farmington, NM. Followed by church services at St Mary’s Catholic Church from 11:00 am to noon. Precession will follow to Kirtland - Fruitland cemetery. Concluding with a reception at St Mary’s Parish Hall. Flowers are appreciated however, the family asks that you consider making a donation to your local hospital, women’s shelter, or food pantry. Edith lived to serve others and we would like to continue her legacy by supporting the community. 

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of San Juan Regional Medical Center, Davita, and Northern Navajo Medical Center for their care, sacrifice and endless hours poured in to healing our community.
