Elizabeth Johnson Rogers December 15, 1937 – April 9, 2025
Elizabeth Johnson Rogers, 87, of Farmington, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 15, 1937, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Everett and Maxine Johnson and was raised in the close-knit community of Burwell, Nebraska.
After graduating from Brownell Hall High School for Girls in Omaha, she went on to attend William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Hugh—her devoted husband of 52 years.
In 1970, Liz and Hugh made their home in Farmington, where she quickly became a vibrant and dedicated member of the community, a role she embraced for the rest of her life. Just a year later, in 1971, she welcomed her beloved son David into the world, a moment that brought her immense joy and purpose. Liz was a devoted homemaker, pouring her love and care into creating a warm, nurturing home for her family.
Liz had an incredible zest for life that touched everyone that knew her. She was a passionate reader who loved diving into books about politics and history, always eager to understand the world more deeply. As a lifelong learner she and Hugh found great joy in exploring the world together, collecting memories and experiences along the way.
Liz gave so much of herself to others. Whether she was serving meals at the Daily Bread, helping to improve and beautify the community with Farmington Clean and Beautiful, supporting young musicians through the Young Artists Recital, or offering a helping hand to those in need alongside her dear friends Jack and Patty Little—she gave with a full heart and a generous spirit.
She was a proud and devoted member of P.E.O., where she found deep joy and lasting friendships among her P.E.O. sisters. She was also an active and cherished member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church, where she served faithfully on the vestry and lent her voice to the choir.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Rogers, parents Everett Johnson and Maxine Johnson, and brother Ben Johnson.
Liz is survived by her son David Rogers and daughter-in-law Carrie Rogers, step-grandchildren Merckx Thrower and Lance Thrower.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Memory Care Beehive Home for their dedicated care and unwavering support in Liz’s final years. To them, Liz wasn’t just a resident, she was truly part of the family.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am Saturday, May 17th at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 312 N. Orchard Ave, Farmington with the Rev. Dr. Guy Mackey officiating. There will be a reception following the service.
