Emily Ruth Hamblin of La Plata, NM passed away on July 14, 2023, following an unfortunate diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer. Emily was born in California and was immediately adopted into the Hamblin family. She grew up on the Hamblin farm and had many fond memories with her brother and numerous
cousins. She was an avid reader and always did well in school. She was also a member of the band and played flute. Most will remember her as being a quiet, kind person who would always be looking for a way to brighten another person's day. She loved animals, especially her cat. While she didn't enjoy
socializing much, she loved her family fiercely and would often find little ways to let them know how much she appreciated them. Emily was a wonderful artist and writer and could usually be found sketching or drawing in one of her many notebooks. She loved her niece and during the last few months
of her life, spent a lot of her time watching cartoons and reading books with Danica, being the best "Auntie Em" that she could be. One of her final wishes was to donate her body to cancer research. She is preceded in death by her father, Dwain Hamblin, her paternal grandfather, Elbert Hamblin, and her
maternal grandfather, Robert Hymer. She is survived by her brother- Robert Hamblin (Angelica), niece- Danica Hamblin, mother- Maureen Hymer-Jacobs, paternal grandmother- Nila Hamblin, maternal grandmother- Patricia Hymer, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Emily did not wish to have a traditional funeral but instead wished to have a celebration of life with her family present. To honor Emily's memory, please find someone to do a kind deed for, write a note of appreciation to someone you love, or make a donation to the Cathy Lincoln Memorial Cancer fund for
patients with breast cancer in San Juan County.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aztec Healthcare for all of the care and support they gave to not only Emily but also to us as her family. Their kindness will be remembered for years to come.
