George John Kuecks passed from this life to the next on July 24, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born on October 10, 1929 in Glasgow, Montana to Henry and Ida Kuecks. He grew up farming but was always interested in the financial world. He was drafted and served two years in the Army. During this time he was stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma where he met the lovely Glenna Ruth Holley. They were married in 1956. After his honorable discharge, he studied finance at the University of Denver. George ambitiously aimed at a future in finance moving to Farmington, NM where he started what would become a 22-year career in banking at Citizens Bank. He and Glenna purchased and ran the Sage Motel in Farmington for several years during the time he was a loan officer. Eventually, however, he set his sights on a much larger project developing a mobile home lot subdivision from land he had purchased in Kirtland. He enjoyed helping the buyers' level the land, moving dirt with his backhoe, making each lot a home for the new purchaser. For many years George and Glenna enjoyed spending 6 months a year in Surprise, Arizona where they made good friends, and he played pool daily. Pool was always an enjoyable hobby for George, from his time as a young man, to his 13 years playing in the New Mexico Senior Citizens Olympics - taking 1st place five of those years. He loved hunting and camping as a younger man, creating many good memories with his family and hunting buddies. George was an intelligent, thoughtful man who was never forceful or overbearing with his opinions but enjoyed conversations and the exchange of ideas and life experiences. His YouTube channel choices say a lot about him: "The Fundamentals of Calculus", "The Magic of Road Grading", "Pool Championship games", and "How to make the best Chicken Fried Steak". He had a wonderful dry sense of humor and an easy demeanor that welcomed everyone to be his friend.
George leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Glenna, two daughters, Holly Kuecks of Denver, CO, Joy Biel (Tommy) of Center, CO, two grandsons, Luke (Monica) Biel of Las Cruces, NM, Morgan (Valeria) Biel of Los Alamos, NM, three great grandchildren Kai, Lilah, and Coen Biel of Las Cruces, and one sister Shirley Aardal.
Memorial services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 11:00a.m. on August 16, 2024.
