Geraldine Stella Godwin

April 22, 1960 — November 23, 2023

Farmington

Geraldine Stella Gallegos Godwin was born April 22, 1960, to Lawrence and Mary Gallegos in Raton, New Mexico and passed away November 23, 2023. Geraldine was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, father and mother, brothers Harold, Dennis and Gary, nephew Shilo, and sister-in- law Joanne. She is survived by her ex-husband Leslie, daughter Savannah, brothers Larry (Christina), Tom (Roxanne), Greg (Jesse), Rory, and Dale, sisters Shirley (Richard), Debra (Tim), Diane, Mary (Mike), and sister-in-law Sheri. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Geraldine was the eleventh of thirteen children, so she had more than enough older siblings that thought they were also her parents. Better known as Geri, she had a constant smile that always kept you wondering what she was thinking. Geraldine attended grade school in Raton and graduated from Farmington High School in 1978. One of her first jobs after high school was working at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Farmington. In 1988, while dancing at the Top Deck she met Les Godwin. It wasn’t long after that, the question of marriage came up, they thought for a minute, and said “Why not?”. To this marriage, in 1997 a beautiful daughter, Savannah, was born. Geraldine was always there to support Les in their business adventures but decided to go to work in 2001 at Sunray Casino. This was probably the beginning of her love of casinos. She worked in Guest Services for almost fifteen years, doing everything from driving tractors to pick up guests, to being in charge of other tractor operators. Her knees began to bother her, so she gave up her job at Sunray and went on to help take care of her mother. After the passing of her mom, she began helping care for her mother-in-law Elaine Godwin. In 2022, she was in a car accident that caused some broken bones, but she was too stubborn to admit to the pain that they caused her. When she finally went to the doctor, she learned she not only had broken bones but also had cancer. This began the battle of her life, to which she succumbed to Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023. Geraldine was a believer in Jesus Christ and her kind spirit and loving heart never failed to show it. She is being cremated and a graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10:00 am.
