On Friday November 9, 2018, Gilbert (Gil) earned his angel wings. He was friends with everyone and loved them with his whole heart. Gil was born on July 9, 1972 in Raton, New Mexico to Floyd and Maria Maestas. Gil moved to Farmington in 1975, where he attended school and graduated from Farmington High School in 1990. He went on to graduate from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM in 1992. Gil also attended UNM and was recently attending San Juan College, studying pre-law. He enjoyed going to see the latest movies, listening to music, watching any sporting event. He attended mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmington regularly while growing up he aided in serving mass. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and close friends. Gil was a big sports fan, loved to support not only his nieces and nephews, but all of the children of his long time and new friends. He is survived by both parents Floyd & Maria Maestas, 3 big sisters, Elizabeth (Michael) McCabe, Dotti (Jesse) O’Neill, Josie (Rich) Litle. Gil was uncle to Ariane and Luke Sullivan, Ryan, and Lilliana Roller, Martin Archuleta, and Ammber Delgado (Louis Valdez). He also was a great uncle to Taelor Larkins & Ryan Sullivan, Sebastian ,and Abigail Delgado, Aspen Archuleta, and Daniel, Shawn, Jane Martinez,and Alice Roller. There will be a memorial gathering scheduled for Monday November 19, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache St., Farmington. Services for Gil will be on Tuesday November 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 414 N. Allen in Farmington. A rosary will be said at 9am inside the church with a catholic mass to start at 10am. A luncheon will follow the service in the family center. A second memorial service will be scheduled in Spring on 2019. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to a Wells Fargo Account under the Gilbert Maestas Memorial fund. Funds raised will be donated to local Farmington area sports programs. Gilbert’s care has been entrusted to Farmington Funeral Home, 2111 W. Apache, Farmington, NM 87401.
