Born January 6, 1934 – Eternal Rest September 7, 2023
Gloria Susana Marquez, 89, spent her final days surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was born in Ignacio, Colorado to Louisa (Lopez) and Leopoldo Serrano. Her life was met with tragedy losing her father at only 18 months. She also lost her sisters, Eva and Evelyn prior to her birth, later to lose her Grandpa, Jose Lopez when she was 4 years old.
Gloria and Pete were childhood friends connecting through relatives from the Rosa, New Mexico community. She often told the story of her fixing our Dad a boxed lunch at social when they were young, and how she knew then, that was her Pete. They were married in the Catholic Church April 17, 1952 and started their family in Rosa, New Mexico. They moved to Bloomfield NM in 1958. Gloria and Pete had ten children, seven boys and three girls. She was very proud of her blessings from God. Gloria worked very hard as homemaker and was a wonderful mother to all her children. She was a CCD teacher and a member of the Ladies Guild for 20+ years for St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a poll worker for four elections for the San Juan County clerk’s office. She loved telling stories of her youth and often made us laugh with her humor. She had many friends whom she loved very much, but her best friend was her granddaughter Julie Marquez whom she shared many wonderful days and memories with. She never wavered from living even when tragedy came to our family. When she lost her husband Pete in 2007 she never weakened. When she saw her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren she would light up. She loved the community and became Mama to many of her children’s friends through the years. She would bless her children when we would go on trips and made sure to ask the angels to watch over us on our journeys. As a woman and mother of faith she lived the example of Christ until her last breath. Gloria had a beautiful life of 89 years and she has 89 descendants to demonstrate the love her and our dad had.
Gloria Marquez was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Eva, Evelyn, Arsenio Quintana, Angie Quintana-Marquez. Husband Pete Marquez; Sons Bobby Marquez, Peter Marquez, Chris Marquez, daughter Louise Marquez-Johnson, granddaughter Crystal Marquez and grandson Vince Marquez. She leaves behind her children, Ross Marquez, Leo (Monica) Marquez, Liz Armenta, Patsy Marquez, Matthew(Aaryn) Marquez and Francisco(Janelle) Marquez. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and her sisters Maima (David) Santistevan and Carol (Emilio) Perez as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Gloria will be with her Pete, which gives us all great comfort. They will be dancing with our beloved family members and the angels in heaven.
