Isaiah James Herrera, 20, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on April 7, 2025. He was born on May 11, 2004, in El Paso, Texas to Sarah Combs and Wesley Herrera.
Isaiah (Zai) was born prematurely and spent the 1st four weeks of his life in NICU, due to his birth weight of 3.5lbs. No one noticed his smaller stature after seeing him pitch a strike or hit a home run while playing for the White Soxs baseball. He would walk onto the field with the intentions of giving it his all. Isaiah was voted MVP his 2nd year of playing.
He carried himself the same in life, at times a man of few words yet his presence always felt unbeknownst to most. Isaiah was a great conversationist and very knowledgeable of history and space. He is known as Uncle Zai to his nephews Jaxon Herrera (5) and Daniel Herrera (3). His often intense and serious demeanor would melt away with kids. Isaiah's love radiated to the kids in his life and in turn, kids often gravitated to him.
Isaiah fills many rolls and will be deeply missed. We hope to have the same courage you carried, for men twice your size could never possess even half your strength. We'll try to hold our heads high as we carry on with your memories. Grandson, Nephew, Uncle, Cousin, Brother, and Son; The loss felt from your absence is defeating. We try to find comfort that you're at peace, with God now.
Isaiah is preceded in death by his grandpa Larry Parnell.
He is survived by his parents Sarah Combs and Wesley Herrera, brother Antonio Herrera, stepbrothers Christopher and Zac Combs, stepfather Michael Combs, grandparents Richard and Ann Sutherland of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Jose and Martha Herrera of El Paso, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Farmington Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Damien Garcia, Antonio Herrera, Wesley Herrera, Anna Wegner, Christopher Combs, and Ishmael Herrera.
