James "Kenneth" Luther, Sr., 89, of Farmington, passed away on February 10, 2021. He was born August 7, 1931 in Durango, CO. to James Houston Luther and Bonnie Lou Harris Luther.
Kenneth graduated from Farmington High School in 1950. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955, stationed at Otis Air Force Base in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company and retired in May of 1987. After retirement, Kenneth was a Welding Inspector with Trigon Engineering and he had his own business, Luther Welding Services. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1747.
Kenneth enjoyed camping and fishing in the Colorado mountains, special fishing trips to Lake Powell with close friends and reunions with his longtime buddies from the Air Force. For well over 40 years Kenneth played the role of Santa Claus, dressing up in a jolly red Santa Suit, popping in on schools, police departments, the homes of his grandchildren, friends, and many unsuspecting children. Above all else, spending time with his family and friends was his most cherished time.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his son , Ken Luther, Jr., parents James and Bonnie Luther, brother Martin Luther, sister Sharlene McMinn-Fredricks.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Irene C. Luther, daughters Jeannine Stavely (Butch deceased), Shirlene (James) Deal, Katherine (Charlie) Morgan, sister Beverly Fleeger of Dallas, TX., grandchildren Kris (Marshal) Stavely, Caitlin (Derrick) Geiger, Jaime (Ron) Woods, James Deal, Sr., Lindsay Luther, Nicole (Casey) Trujillo, Dustin (Janelle) Luther, and Jimmy (Jennifer) Rowland.
Kenneth is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter with a second great-great-granddaughter due in April.
Also, part of his special extended family: Paula Luther-Arocho, Rob Newth, numerous nieces, nephews and a wealth of friends.
There will be a memorial service Friday, February 19th at 1:30pm at Sagebrush Church, 5700 College Blvd in Farmington, interment/burial will be immediatley following the services at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin in Farmington.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Oakley, Stan Harris, Randy Foutz, Roy Frame, Art Chase, Donnie Halvorson, James Deal and Charlie Morgan.
Kenneth requested that in lieu of flowers, he would appreciate you making a donation to Basin Home Health and Hospice at 200 N. Orchard Ave. in Farmington, NM. 87401.
