Janet Laura Howell, beloved mother, dedicated worker, cherished member of her community, and a woman of devoted faith, passed away on February 10th, 2024, in Farmington, New Mexico. She was born on March 21st, 1946, in Santa Rita, NM, to Clyde Thompson and Doris Thompson.
Janet dedicated an impressive 29 years of her life to serving the San Juan County Detention Center, where she worked as a court liaison. Her commitment to her work was unwavering, and her contributions to the justice system were invaluable. Janet's colleagues admired her professionalism, kindness, and dedication. Her impact on the lives she touched throughout her career will continue to be felt by many.
In her youth, Janet attended Silver City schools before graduating from Farmington High School. Her passion for knowledge and education remained with her throughout her life. Janet had a thirst for learning and was known for her intellectual curiosity.
Outside of work and studies, Janet had a rich and fulfilling personal life. She enjoyed playing softball and was an active member of the local bowling league. On weekends, you could find her honing her skills on the lanes or cheering on fellow bowlers with great enthusiasm.
When not engaged in athletic pursuits, Janet delighted in tending to her yard and engaging in various crafts. Her creativity knew no bounds as she poured love into every project she embarked upon.
Janet possessed an adventurous spirit and loved traveling to new places. An occasional visit to the casino provided Janet with a source of excitement and entertainment. The thrill of chance added a spark to her days when luck was on her side.
Above all else, Janet relished spending time with her family, particularly during the holidays. She looked forward to these special occasions as an opportunity to create lasting memories and foster deeper connections with her loved ones. Janet's warm presence and genuine love for her family created a sense of unity that will forever be treasured.
Janet Laura Howell is survived by her cherished sons, Darren Howell (Tamera) and Kevin Howell. They were the pride and joy of her life, and their bond will forever endure. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dayton Howell and Ryan Howell.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Thompson, mother, Doris Thompson, and brother, William "Doc" Thompson. Their memories will live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
