John Nicholas Stolfa, 78, a resident of Aztec, NM, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. John was born in Bloomington, Illinois on June 20, 1945, the son of Christopher Nicholas and Margaret Josephine Stolfa.
Born and raised in Illinois, John raised his six children in the Chicagoland area. John fell in love with the landscape of the West and moved to Durango, Colorado over 25 years ago. John’s career included founding two information technology companies, serving as Vice President at Bank of the San Juans, operating a ski lift, and driving mountain tour jeeps. In his spare time, he was a motorcycle racer, childcare advocate, animal caregiver, social butterfly, joke maker, advisor, and general spreader of light and love. John relished spending time with family and friends. Throughout his life he took joy in helping others find their path and making their dreams come true.
John is preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Christopher Stolfa.
He is survived by his sisters Christine Kraft and Camille Cornwell; his children John, Matthew, Adam, and Sarah Stolfa, Xiem Gutschow and Christine Carpenter; his grandchildren, Christian, Madeline, Margret, Maxwell, and Nicola Stolfa, Madeline and Lincoln Sconyers, Mackenzie Carpenter, Dylan Gutschow, Kelsie Zimmerman, and his great grandson Miles Zimmerman.
