Jose Abedon “Abe” Martinez (87), of Bloomfield, NM, passed away September 9, 2022. Abe was born July 15, 1935, in McPhee, CO, to Abidon & Creatilda Martinez.  At the age of 17 he joined the Air force and served four years as an aircraft mechanic. In 1958 he met and married Elizabeth Martinez. From this marriage he had 5 children, Rick, Debbie, Abigail, Barbara, and Patric. In 1971 he met and married Janet Johnson. From this marriage he had two sons, Ryan and Chris.

He met Irene Johnson in 1980 and they spent the next 42 years together fishing, hunting, and going to the casino. During this time, he enjoyed spending time with Irene’s 6 children and their grandchildren. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Abe went to work as a logger. He later became a miner for the uranium mines and after several years at the mine, he became a mobile home mover until his retirement.

Abe is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Debbie Randall, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Irene Johnson, his sons, Rick, Patric, Ryan, and Chris Martinez, as well as Irene’s sons, Ronald, Aaron, Robert, Dana, and Keith Johnson, his daughters, Abigail Randall, Barbara Martinez, and Debbie Johnson. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers, Benny and Richard, and his sisters, Della and Sylvia.

Graveside service and burial will be at Cortez Cemetery on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 1 pm.
