Jose F. Pacheco "Papo" of Flora Vista, New Mexico has gone to his heavenly home at the age of 91 on July 22, 2022. Jose was born to Maximiliano and Fedelina Pacheco on December 18, 1930 in San Miguel, NM. Jose joined the United States Army December 14, 1948 as a member of the Special Forces "Green Berets" First Special Forces airborn. Serving his country in the Korean War earning several achievements, awards including the Purple Heart and an honorable discharge. Following his military campaign, he married his best friend and love of his life, Lorraine Pacheco January 2 1955, in Chama, New Mexico.
Jose and Lorraine moved to Aztec, NM in 1971 where he worked with APS until his retirement. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jose. He enjoyed fly fishing, quiet evenings working in his garden and the many hours spent at the casino. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jose is preceded in death by parents Maximiliano and Fedelina Pacheco, his brothers Manuel and Abbey Pacheco and sisters Nellie Pacheco, Dorothy Lalond, Ramona Mares, and Verna Carrillo, Cecilia Rivas
Jose is survived by his wife Lorraine Pacheco, a son Ernie Pacheco (Amanda), daughter Carmen Pacheco-Smith (Kevin), daughter Maxie Castillo (Sergio). His brothers, Ruben Pacheco (Lorraine), Robert Pacheco (Chon) and Max Pacheco. His sisters, Ester Luhman, Maryann Wright and Joann Kearney. His grandchildren, Dustan Smith, Mandi Whitley, Meghan Perez, Michelle Aguilar, Desmond Castillo, David Castillo and Santana Pacheco, Great grandchildren, Destiny, Madison, Hunter and Blair Smith, Autumn and Brooke Archuleta, Emmeri and Kristin Tafoya, Roxye Perez. Augustine and Cheyann Aguilar. Cerrin, Mya and Ace Castillo. Makayla and David Jr. Castillo. Malisha and Cruzito Bradfield and one great great grandson Lorenzo Antonio Archibeque.
Jose was kind and humble, and a man of few words. A devoted husband and father, always putting his family first. He always smiled and made his home a loving place for his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and forever loved. Vaya Con Dios.
