Julia Anne Umberson Johnson was born February 9, 1940, in Dye Mound, Texas and passed on to be with her Lord on December 9, 2018. Mother was a servant of the people, a mother, a sister, a wife, a friend, and a true confidant.
Mother was a kind, gentle, stoic, prideful, and the most giving of any person ever known. Julia was born by a midwife at home in Dye Mound, Texas, to her mother and father, Reva and Ernest Umberson. Mother loved her community in Dye Mound, where she would run, pick flowers, ride horses, enjoy country and farming life. St. Jo, Texas, and Ardmore, Oklahoma, were where her grammar and high school years were spent with joy. She went to college and graduated as an RN at Oklahoma General Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her degree on December 4, 1963. She then married a military man by the name
of Eucelid Larry Johnson on February 6, 1959. They were stationed at the White Sands Missle Range, where she was an OB Nurse. Mother was also a nurse
at the hospital in El Paso, Texas and the hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She went on the Quinco VA during the Vietnam Conflict and was there as an OB nurse. Her remembrance of that time there was the wounded soldiers, looking in at the nursery, at the new life, as they themselves were just innocent children. As her husband, Eucelid, was also a medical soldier from 1968-1970, they were stationed in Germany. Mother moved on to Ft. Sill Lanton, Oklahoma. While married to Eucelid, they had two precious children, Jennifer, and Eric Johnson. Mother moved on with her life and married a longtime
childhood friend, Dwain Sorrow on August 24, 1973, where they lived in Farmington, New Mexico. Mother became a state employee of the State Health Department where she worked closely with TB patients during the Swine Flu Epidemic. While there, she received and was honored as the Nurse of the Year in
the State of New Mexico in 1977. She was also honored by the Navajo Area Indian Health Services for her 17 years of Excellent Nursing Care and the warmth and concern to our Navajo People. She was also a traveling nurse in Maryland. She primarily loved the Native people where she served in Shiprock, New Mexico. Mother then moved to Alaska where she worked for the governments a nurse for 8 years and retired. She then moved back to Farmington, New Mexico to live out her remaining years. She earned many awards including a
performance award on Aug. 6, 1990, Indian Health PAS Public Health, Navajo Area Office Shiprock Service, and Shiprock, NM Nursing Brand. Mother loved traveling, she had a constant wanderlust, she taught us to respect all nationalities, races, the sick and dying, museums, cathedrals, taking the wrong turn and exploring what life could afford her. Her garden was her church. Her flowers, fruit trees and beautiful poppies brought her great comfort and peace. She loved giving and helping. She also loved her companion, her cat, Buster, who gave her constant love. Thank you, mother, for all the memories and all you taught us, and for all your love. We love you, mom! A special thank you to her very dear friend, Norma Benally, who was very close to her heart. Julia is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Reva Umberson. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Beardon, her daughter and husband, Jennifer and Chris Zamora, her son and wife, Eric and Dawn Johnson, her 4 grandchildren, Micheal and Derik Zamora and DeAnn and Dwain Johnson, and her 4 great-grandchildren, Allie and Lexi Zamora and Dwain Jr. and Aria Johnson.
