Karen Colleen Christensen

July 8, 1945 — November 8, 2024

Farmington

Karen Colleen Evensen Christensen, 79, of Farmington, NM, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, November 8, 2024. She was born July 8, 1945, in Durango, CO, to Clifford and Elma Evensen.

After graduating from Durango High School in 1963, Karen attended Brigham Young University where she graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Business. While attending BYU, she met the love of her life, William Brent Christensen. They were married on August 18, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. After graduation, they briefly moved to Arvada, CO, before returning to Farmington, NM, where they lived, worked (Tri-City Mayflower), and raised their family. Karen’s greatest passion was her family. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed every moment she could spend with her family. She was a very cherished and devoted friend to many. Her life was spent serving others; brightening lives and helping make other’s loads lighter brought her so much joy.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held numerous callings. She and Brent served together for 4 years in the Albuquerque New Mexico Temple. One of her favorite callings was playing the piano and organ. She was phenomenal! She started playing the organ in church at the age of 16 and had played ever since. Outside of church, she played the piano for some of the school choirs - for Mrs. Surh at Tibbetts Junior High School and for Virginia Nichols-Hircock at Farmington High School. She played for many solo and ensembles and enjoyed getting to travel with the choirs.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Brent; daughter, Tamma Clarine; son-in-law, Dan Clarine; granddaughters, Skylar Clarine and Maren Christensen; parents, Clifford and Elma Evensen; sister, Elaine Bard; and brother, Val Evensen. She is survived by her children: Jeff (Debbie) Christensen of Laie, HI; Kori (Terry) Johnston of Fredericksburg, VA; Kassy (Tom) Seibert of Golden, CO; Tessa Christensen of Farmington, NM; Lenae (Mike) Torgerson of Annabella, UT; and her grandchildren: Chloe and Jonah Christensen; Joshua (Brenda) Clarine, Megan (Cameron) Perry, Zachary Clarine; Makenna, Bridger, Hunter, Sawyer, Britton, and Asher Johnston; Sadie (Josh) McCracken; Tanner, Aliya, Dani, Ora, and Jacob Torgerson; and great-grandson: Rhett Perry; and brother: Ronald (Shirley) Evensen of Provo, UT.
