Layron E. Wilson (Lee Wilson) of Bloomfield, New Mexico passed from a short illness at San Juan Regional Medical Center on September 16, 2024, at the age of 92.
Layron was born on October 9, 1931, in Alpine Arkansas. He was the first child of Elmer and Tina Wilson.
He came to Roswell, New Mexico in 1946 serving in the Army Air Force where he met his loving wife, Imo Gene Thompson. After Military Service he worked in Texas, Arizona, and Montana in Seismograph, drilling, welding and railroad before coming to the Bloomfield area in 1959. In 1967 he went to Wyoming for exploration drilling for uranium and coal; from 1970 moved to Tennessee for oil and gas exploration and back to Bloomfield in 1972 where he continued drilling exploration oil and gas wells into the 1980’s when he sold the drilling business. Later he bought an oilfield supply and equipment business in Farmington (American Supply). After retirement he lived in Bloomfield for the remainder of his life.
Lee was active in community services as Worshipful Master at Masonic Lodge #25, Aztec, New Mexico.
Preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Imo Gene; brother, Denver; and great-grandson Cody Max Lowell.
Survived by his son, Leland (Jerrie) Wilson, daughter, Carolyn Anderson; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 10:00 am at Memory Gardens in Farmington, New Mexico. Officiating will be San Juan Masonic Lodge #25 and Veterans of Foreign War.
