Lena Hare

Lena Mae (Wood) Hare
March 19, 1929 – November 8, 2018
Lena Mae was born in Bloomfield, New Mexico to Edward F. Wood and Lena A. (Finch) Wood. She helped run the Hesperus Ski Area with her husband, Bill, and his brothers and wives for nearly 16 years. She was also a Vivian Woodard Cosmetics Distributor for several years before opening her own shop in Farmington, where she sold both cosmetics and women’s fine apparel. Later in her life, she became a real estate agent and worked for various local firms until she and Bill, along with friends, started their own agency. After retiring from the real estate business, she and Bill spent their time traveling to many places, including Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and the eastern states. Lena Mae was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for most of her life and dearly enjoyed being with her “sisters”.
She is survived by her brother Aubrey (Patti) Wood; her children, Charles (Susan) Hare; David (Shari) Hare, Richard Hare; Lewis Hare; and Karen McKinney, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Charles W. “Bill” Hare, her mother and father, her brother, Edward Wood, her grandson, Adam Gonzales, and grand-daughter, Autumn Roberts.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington with Pastor Monty Mullenix officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
