Lois M. Smith, 68, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on November 22, 2021, in Farmington, New Mexico. Born on July 23, 1953, in Hot Springs, Montana, to parents Charles and Viola Burns.
Lois Marie Smith was a loving Mother and Grandmother, raising her kids and supporting her husband through 26 years as an Air Force wife, and 19 years as a Policeman's wife. Raising her children in areas such as Okinawa, Philippines, Japan, and numerous US Air Force Bases in the States. She was a volunteer Dental Surgical Assistant for various Air Force Dentists and was one of the Air Forces first Foster Family Parents in the Philippines and Japan. Fostering abused children and guiding them and assisting AF prosecutors through difficult legal processes She has lived in Farmington for 24 years where her
husband was a Farmington Police Officer and she worked for Farmington Municipal Schools as a crossing guard, lunchroom monitor and the Latchkey Coordinator for Ladera Elementary School for over 15 years. She was always affectionally known as "Ms. Lois". She loved working with children and considered them her extended family. She lived her life believing she should always take care of others before herself.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Viola Burns.
Lois is survived by her husband, Stephen D. Smith, daughter Heather M. Smith, son Jeremy A. Smith, sisters Darlene Brunk, and Arlene Van Parys, grandchildren Jacob Wilcoxon, Haley Goergen, Benjamin Smith and Elianna Smith.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 1:00-2:00pm at Farmington Funeral Home at 2111 W. Apache Street in Farmington, New Mexico.
Memorial Services and Interment will be held in Corvallis, Montana at a later time.
