Louella McDonald

April 12, 1953 — February 10, 2025

Joy (LouElla) McDonald, 71, passed away on February 10, 2025, in the comfort of her own home in Aztec, New Mexico. Born on April 12, 1953, in Farmington, New Mexico, Joy lived a life filled with hard work, kindness, and an unwavering spirit. She dedicated many years to her community as a member of the volunteer fire department. Her career also led her to the Highway Grill, where she formed lifelong friendships. Later, she spent over 15 years working for the city of Aztec, leaving a lasting impact through her dedication and service.

Joy was known for her generosity and warmth-she never met a stranger and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Her strength, both physical and emotional, was admired by all who knew her.

She found joy in simple pleasures like hunting for marbles and agates, tending to her garden, collecting wind chimes, thrift shopping, and visiting the casino. These hobbies brought her happiness and reflected her appreciation for life & #39's little treasures.

Joy is survived by her three younger sisters: Sue Garcia (Lucio), Gale Archuleta (Steve), and Dale Castagnola, along with her sister in law Clancy McDonald; as well as her daughters: Gina Christensen, Georgia Johnston (Paul Johnston IV), Loretta Mitchell (Travis McDaniel), and Carah Carson (Kadin Carson). She also leaves behind a cherished legacy through her grandchildren: Paul Johnston V (Macey Johnston), Tyler Johnston (Nicole Johnston), Sierra Fisher (Adam Fisher), Bill Kearney (Skya & Zeus), Samantha Hill (Nathan Price), Zorie Kearney, Raylee Carson, Konnor Carson, and Lana Carson; along with her twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Molly and Clayborn; her brother Lloyd McDonald, half brothers Jody and Emmett Lee, and her sisters Mae Willis and Charlene Selph.

A memorial gathering will be held on April 12, 2025, in New Mexico. The exact location and time are to be determined.

Joy's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
