Maclovio "Max" Gutierrez age 92 of Aztec passed away Monday January 16, 2023 at his home. Max was born on September 11, 1930 to Alipio and Benedita Gutierrez, and raised in La Jara, New Mexico this is where he met and married his beautiful bride, Sadie. They married in 1951 shortly before he was shipped off to the Korean War where he proudly fought for his country with the United State Army until 1953.
Upon his return home Max and Sadie resided in La Jara and then for a short time in Gallup before moving to Aztec in 1953. They had nine children over the years. Max worked mostly as a heavy equipment operator until he retired from the City of Aztec Sanitation Dept. During his retirement he enjoyed his membership at the Aztec VFW Post 614 where he served as Commander and Chaplain for many years. He also loved spending time with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and more recently great-great grandchildren. Fishing became a pastime activity that he found later in life; The Aztec Tiger Pond became one of his favorite hangouts. Max was well known and well liked in the Aztec community, and he will be missed dearly be many.
Preceding him in death was his infant sons; Alipio and Nicholas Gutierrez and a grandson Nickalaus Gutierrez, his parents and two brothers Rubel and Sepriano, one sister Chartotta Baca.
Surviving are his wife Sadie "Maria" Gutierrez, his sons Louis, Michael, Charles and Mario. daughters Rebecca, Rosalie and Angela, 18 Grandchildren, 55 Great Grandchildren and 13 Great-great grandchildren. One sister Mary Sandoval of Utah. Several nieces and nephews.
The Holy rosary will be recited at 10:00 am with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am, from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 423 W. Mesa Verde Ave. Aztec, NM. Interment Aztec Cemetery. A reception will be held following the burial at The St. Joseph Parish Hall. Pallbearers are Kenneth mills Jr., Donny Gutierrez, Patrick Sebastian, Mark Gutierrez, Nathanial Gutierrez, Angelo Garcia and Julian Garcia.
