Mariano James "Jim" Cordova, earned his angel wings on July 16, 2018. He was born on November 27, 1939 in Durango, Colorado to Benedito and Carolina Cordova. He was the baby of the family. He grew up in Durango and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his service to his country, he met Rosalina Valdez, moved back to Durango and started his family. He was employed at several businesses throughout Durango but retired from Mercy Medical Center and 4 Corners Health Care Center July 2017. He was a very hard worker. He always had a smile on his face and greeted strangers as if they were family. He would give patients at Mercy and at 4 Corners rosaries often. He always had a joke to tell and a song in his heart that he would whistle to everyday. He became known as Santa Clause as he would dress up for the American Legion every year and give out bags of candy to everyone he seen. He did this at Mercy Medical Center as well as 4 Corners Health, handing out bags to patients and visitors. He will truly be missed by all.
Mariano is survived by his wife, Rosalina Cordova, Daughter Carolina (Chris) Maez, Son Allen (Criselda) Cordova, and Daughter Paulette Esquibel, 10 Grandchildren and one Great-Grandson. He is also survived by two sisters Mary McNutt and Angie Andrews.
Mariano was preceded in death by his parents Benedito and Carolina Cordova, Brothers Paul, Joseph, and Tommy Cordova. Sister Delphina Fanto, Aggie Sturek, Molly Ward, Viola (Vee) Wilson and Cordie Williams.
The Cordova, Maez and Esquibel Families would like to acknowledge and give our deepest thanks to Mercy Medical Center and 4 Corners Health Center Coworkers, Guardian Angels Hospice and to numerous family and friends who interacted, loved, and touched our father's heart. Special thanks to those who were there for him to the very end of his life and to those who sent flowers, food, phone calls, texts messages or visited us in our time of need. Your thoughts, prayers, kindness, and generosity have not gone unnoticed and are very much appreciated.
Rosary will be held in his honor on July 22, 2018 at 5pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango, Colorado. Funeral will be held July 23, 2018 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon Joseph Valdez officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
