Mark L. Fargen passed away in Aztec, New Mexico October 12, 2019 after a long illness. He was born April 29, 1953 to John L. Fargen and Delores Harvey Fargen at Richland Hospital, Richland Center, Wi.
He grew up on a dairy farm near Bear Valley, Sauk County, WI. He graduated from Ithaca (WI) High School in 1971 and he received an electronics diploma from Madison (WI) Area Technical School in 1972.
Mark joined the U.S. Army in 1975, served at the Korean Demilitarized Zone, and was honorably discharged in 1977 as a Vietnam Era Veteran.
Mark worked as a licensed electrician in Titusville, Florida and Reedsburg, WI and a long haul tractor-trailer driver. Mark earned a Master Electrician Certification. He told many stories of his days on the road and later restoring power to Homestead, Florida after the 1992 Hurricane Andrew. In 1993, Mark’s followed his boyhood friend, Michael Wunnicke to Aztec, New Mexico. He loved New Mexico and worked as an electrician in the oil field and well services. He owned American Pressure Wash and American Rig Services in Aztec.
Mark is survived by his mother, Delores Fargen, sister Pamela Fargen and brother Bernard Fargen, all of Redding, CA, sister Cheryl (Roger) Perkins of Colorado Springs, sister Helen Marie (Dr. Paul Kaesberg) Rice and brother Maurice (Donna) Fargen both of Sacramento, CA, and brother Dale (Michelle) Fargen of Guildford, England, UK. Many friends and family survive him, including special cousin Colleen Fuhrman of Titusville, Florida and special nephew Ben Rice of Sacramento, CA who made many trips to New Mexico in the final months of Mark’s life, and special New Mexico friends Priscilla Shannon and Jim McCarty. Miniature poodle Dodger, his constant companion, survives Mark.
Mark was preceded in death by his father John L. Fargen and paternal grandparents Thomas and Helen Byrne Fargen all of rural Hillpoint, WI, and maternal grandparents Leon and Florence Hurley Harvey of rural LaValle, Wi, and brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Rice of Madison, WI. His beloved dogs, The Wolf and Bear, preceded him in death.
The family appreciates Mark’s New Mexico friends, Fred Emery, Rick, Meghan, Ricky and Larry Perez, Charlotte and Bill Metz, and Les for the care they gave Mark in the last years of his life.
A special thank-you to Dr. Robert Sprung and the staff at Four Corners Heart and Lung Institute, Farmington, NM.
A memorial visitation for Mark will be held at 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the Farmington Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 PM on Saturday October 26, 2019 at 1 P.M. at Cedar Hill Community Cemetery, Aztec, New Mexico. VFW post 2182 will perform the military honors.
The Farmington Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
