Maxine Martinez

Maxine Martinez (81), of Nageezi, NM, passed away August 1, 2023, in Farmington, NM. Maxine was born February 28, 1942, to her parents, Juan & Ruth Martinez. Maxine was born to Nihoobáanií and born for Nakai Díne.

Maxine was born at the Brethren in Christ Mission in Otis, NM. She briefly attended Albuquerque Indian School. She was married for 10 years to the father of her children, Andrew Armstrong Anderson. She enjoyed Navajo rug waving, beading jewelry, and crocheting. She enjoyed life; she liked to joke and made many friends in her life adventures!

Maxine is preceded in death by her son, Emerson Anderson; her parents, Juan & Ruth Martinez; her brothers, Curtis Martinez and Henry J. Martinez; her sisters, Nora Martinez and Edith Martinez; and her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Julian Hacessa (maternal) and Juanita Augustine (paternal).

She is survived by her sons, Elbert Anderson, Sr. and Anthony Anderson; her daughters, Annabelle Anderson and Laura Anderson; her brother, Harold Martinez; her sisters, Lucy George, Rosie Chavez, Anita Augustine, Shirley Postoak, Lois Pinto, Paula Soto, and Ida Begay; and her 10 grandchildren, as well as 11 great-grandchildren!

A graveside service will be held for Ms. Maxine on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Lybrook Cemetery in Lybrook, NM, and will be officiated Cecil Jim, Sr.

Maxine's funeral bearers are Wallace Castillo III, Brian W. Begay, Shawn Martinez, Murphy Howard, Marcus Johnson, Skylar Wauneka, Calbert Marinez, and Daniel Wayne Platero.
