Patricia Suzanne “Tricia” Edwards went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on November 16, 2021, in Farmington, New Mexico. She was born as the third child of Shelton Edwards and Patsy Ruth Bonner Edwards on May 5, 1959, in Durango, Colorado. Tricia and her family enjoyed living in Durango, which was an ideal place to grow as a child.
In 1962, the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico (the “Big City”) and lived there for three years before moving to Farmington in 1965.
Tricia graduated from Farmington High School in 1977 as an honor student. She attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales for one semester, and then transferred to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, from which she graduated in August 1981 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both psychology and sociology.
After graduation, Tricia moved back to Farmington, became a home-owner, and began a successful career in banking, beginning at San Juan Savings. Tricia was a claims adjustor for State Farm Insurance Company. She later enjoyed working at First National Bank, was a branch manager with Wells Fargo Bank, and then a mortgage loan officer with Animas Credit Union. Tricia loved trying to help people in their life circumstances.
About 1982, Tricia heard and believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She turned to Jesus in faith and surrendered her life to him, which led her to First Baptist Church in Farmington, where she found her church family whom she loved and served until her passing. She especially appreciated the faithful accurate Bible preaching and the teaching in the Bible study classes.
In September 2006, Tricia went to work for the City Attorney in Farmington for eight years, during which she became a legal secretary and where she formed several lifetime friendships. In 2014, Tricia began the most enjoyable working experience in her life with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. She felt blessed by the people with whom she was privileged to work. She deeply cared about them, and was proud of the brotherhood/sisterhood that exists in the Sheriff’s Office. At the time of her passing, Tricia served as the Financial Manager at the Sheriff’s Office.
Tricia was preceded in death by her grandparents Claude and Vesta Edwards and Bill and Mildred Bonner (she was especially close to her grandfather Bill Bonner), and by her much-loved father Shelton Edwards. She is survived by her much-loved mother Patsy Edwards, sister Donna Sowers, brother John Edwards and sister-in-law Krista Edwards, her nephews Kevin Sowers and Jason Sowers, and her great-niece Addison Sowers (with whom she enjoyed playing games). Tricia loved all of her family and her friends. Her family is very grateful to have had her for 62 years, and to know that without a doubt Tricia is now with her Lord Jesus.
A celebration of Tricia’s life will be held at First Baptist Church (corner of Auburn and Arrington Streets), Farmington, New Mexico, on Friday December 10, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.
Instead of flowers, Tricia would have requested that any donations be made to the Heal Our Patriots ministry (Samaritan’s Purse), or Insight for Living (Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s ministry), or Wounded Warriors or a Christian ministry of your choice.
