Patrica was born in Ames, Oklahoma. When her mother passed away Patty was 2 years old, and went to live with her grandma Hackney while her dad worked. Her grandma couldn't say Patricia so she called her Patty. A few years later her dad remarried and they moved to Oregon. Where she met and married her husband Robert Smith. Patty and Robert settled in McCloud, California, where Patty was a home maker and raised 4 children. Later on they moved to Buckeye, Arizona, where they had a fifth child. Soon after they moved again to Farmington, NM. That is where she owned and operated a gas station on Pinion St. called Bells Corners. Patty was a loving member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved volunteering, she had volunteered at the Aztec Ruins for many years, and the Aztec Museum. She loved working on her ceramics and crafts. Patty loved everyone and at the end she especially loved the hugs she got from her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Smith; son Russell E. Smith; son in laws Thomas Glaspie and Thomas Sallee; daughter in law Mary Lou Smith; parents Harry H. Hackney and Avis Arlene Adams; her step mom Leona M. Hackney; her brother Ralph Hacney; grandsons Kevin Smith, Gregory W. Glaspie, and Damian Sallee.
