Paul Jones

Paul Jones, 82, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away on April 4, 2024, in Shiprock, New Mexico. Paul was born on September 1, 1941, in Bisti, New Mexico to parents Myrona & Taylor Jones. Born to Todichiinii (Bitter Water) and born for Taneeszahnii (The Tangle People).

Paul’s schooling included Bisti Methodist Mission, Navajo Crusader, and Chilocoo School. He began his career as a carpenter learning this trade from his father, then he worked as an Industrial painter. A few years later – he started a business painting automobiles. Paul then went to become a licensed contractor and built many homes on and off the reservation. In his later years he devoted his time to San Juan Center for Independence where he built ramps to accommodate people in need. Paul was an avid outdoorsman. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, and guitar playing. Paul was an active member of the First Indian Baptist Church. He spent many hours repairing and maintaining the facility. His faith was important to him and carried him through all obstacles. Paul was known for his unwavering generosity and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone – this is how he showed love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose life he touched.

Paul is preceded by his son Harold Jones, parents Myrona Jones and Taylor Jones, brothers Jimmy Jones, and Thomas Simpson, sisters Dorothy Chavez, Lilly Peshlakai, and Bessie Bunion.

Paul is survived by his wife Nancy Jones, sons Terry Jones, and Gary Jones, daughters Pauline Josea, Patty Etsitty, and Paula Jimson, brothers David Jones Sr, Curtis Jones Sr, Herman Jones, and Wilson Simpson, sisters Mary Benally, Annie Deaguero, and Virginia Jones.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Farmington on Thursday, April 11, 2024, with Visitation at 9:00am, Funeral Service begins at 10:00am, followed by Burial at 11:30am at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington, NM. The Family will host a Reception at 1:00pm at the River Community Church in Farmington, NM.
