Phyllis Fay Henrie

On December 31, 2021, Phyllis Fay Henrie rejoined her heavenly father after passing away at the age of 68.

Phyllis was born August 4, 1953 in Arnold, Nebraska to Donald E. and Veneda F. Pearson. She grew up in Nebraska, Wyoming, and New Mexico while her father worked in the oil and gas industry. Phyllis graduated from Farmington High School in 1971 where she was a member of the Kelly Greens, Future Teachers of America, and the Sweet Sixteen's choral group.

Phyllis attended New Mexico State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics (1977). She also secured a New Mexico Educator License, for secondary education. Phyllis later obtained a Masters of Arts degree from NMSU in Management and Communication (1992).

In 1974 she married James C. Henrie III of Corrales, NM. The two lived in Las Cruces, NM and Phyllis worked at NMSU as a Procurement Clerk in the Purchasing Office while attending school. After graduation, they moved to Flora Vista, NM (1978) and were blessed with two daughters, Kristine Frances and Erinn Fay Henrie. Phyllis was always very active in her daughters' lives and she raised both to be strong, independent women.

In 1983 Phyllis began working outside the home at San Juan College in Farmington, NM as a Records Clerk in the Financial Aid Office. She continued to advance her career at SJC as a Financial Aid Supervisor, Financial Aid Specialist, and retired as the Financial Aid Assistant Director in 2010. She often supported her parent's business by working as a clerical aide for Southwest Geophysical, Inc. Following retirement, she returned to help out in the SJC records department for the next two years before working for the San Juan County Sheriff's Department in Aztec, NM.

She enjoyed staying busy and felt that making a difference in the lives of others was her calling. In addition to working full-time, Phyllis actively volunteered for many organizations and lead activities, including: Four Corners Conference for Women Scholarship, 4-H Club, San Juan College Rodeo Club, and she was also a presenter for college nights and numerous scholarships for local high schools.

You could usually find Phyllis outdoors in her flower garden, taking care of various animals, or fishing and picnicking with family. She loved to dance, sing, laugh, bake, and enjoyed getting together with family and friends.

Phyllis was a strong woman who faced life's challenges, head on. She was a cancer survivor and often gave others strength in times of adversity. She carried herself with grace and nothing made her happier than spending time with her daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren. Phyllis was a positive influence and she made a difference in many people's lives; thus leaving us all with wonderful memories of a beautiful person.
