Ray Phelps was a caring partner, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend. He left this world peacefully on January 4, 2021 at age 92 to join his Savior. He was cherished by all whom knew him. Ray is survived by his daughters Terry and Katrina, his 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great- grandchildren.
He was born to parents Henry and Bessie Phelps on June 2, 1928. After graduating from high school, Ray joined the Army and served in Germany. He was married in 1954 to Loriene Day. Together, they had 4 children: Steven, Terry, Katrina, and Doug. He retired from El Paso Natural Gas as a Field Supervisor in 1988 after 35 years of service. Following retirement, he ran a family paper route for 4 years.
He was proceeded in death by wife Loriene Phelps, his brother Perry Phelps, and sons Steven and Doug Phelps. After losing his loving wife, he found love again at the ripe old age of 70 in his long-time partner Gloria Rogers.
Ray loved spending time at the Senior Center engaging in activities such as the Senior Olympics. He was also a dedicated member of the Elks Lodge and held the position of Master Mason for the Masonic lodge in Aztec NM for 62 years. He loved to watch his old westerns, listen to classic country music and could read a book or two a week even into his old age. Ray was passionate about football and especially his 49ers. And enjoyed playing pool and cards and dominos with his friends and family.
