Robert Isaac Sipe passed on October 2, 2024, at Cranes Roost in Aztec at the age of 90 years old. Robert was born on March 25, 1934, in Aqua Zarca, NM to Clarence E. and Sylvia Duke Sipe. He married Betty Herbel on July 31, 1953, in Aztec, N.M. Robert was always a good provider for his family. He worked on seismograph crews throughout multiple states, roughnecking, missile bases in Nebraska, Ford garage in Hardin, Montana, and was a heavy equipment operator while Navajo Dam was being built. He met the love of his life Betty in Hardin when he was working on the seismograph crew. Robert and Betty were married for 57 years before her passing in 2010. Robert and Betty settled in Aztec, where they raised their two boys. Robert worked for El Paso Natural Gas for 33 years and retired in 1995. He built two homes from the ground up for his family and spent many years on the Aztec Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Aztec Methodist Church for many years. Robert lived a full, long life and made many memories with family and friends. He loved to fish, camp, hunt, shoot sporting clays, polish rocks, and make jewelry. He and Betty spent many years traveling in their motorhome before and after he retired. Robert and Betty’s dog Taz went everywhere with them and he was Robert’s companion after Betty passed.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents; Clarence and Sylvia Sipe, sister; June Sipe, and brother; Larry Sipe. He is survived by brother; Eugene, sister; Eunice, sons; Ron Sipe (Sherri) and Dean Sipe (Sandra), grandchildren; Heather Huntington (Jesse), Tiffany Greenleaf (Jacob), Matt Dangerfield (Mariani), Amanda Sipe, and Katie Sipe, great grandchildren; Taylor Sipe, Zachary McGarry, Dustin Sipe, Tristan McGarry, Madalyn, Emily, Kody, and Josh Kerschion, Taison and Quinton Finley, great-great grandchildren; Taylyn, Natalie, and Freya McGarry, and one on the way.
Pallbearers will be Matt Dangerfield, Zachary and Tristian McGarry, Dustin Sipe, Jacob Greenleaf, and Jesse Huntington. Honoray pallbearers will be Taison and Quinton Finley.
The family would like to thank Sherri Sipe and Crane’s Roost for all the loving care they gave Robert.
Services for Robert will be Thursday October 10, 2024, at the Aztec Methodist Church. The viewing will take place from 9-10 a.m. with services immediately following from 10-11 a.m. Graveside services to follow at Aztec Cemetery.
