Ronda Jay (Smith) Holcomb, 65, passed from this life Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. She was born Sept. 3, 1952, in Tucumcari to the home of JW and Vera Wampler Smith.

Ronda attended school in Floyd, Melrose, Ft. Sumner, and Raton, N.M. She graduated from Raton Schools in 1970. Ronda grew up on ranches and was active in rodeos in her youth winning several trophies and buckles and was crowned Colfax County Rodeo Queen.

Ronda worked as a receptionist for RJ Cook Oil Company in Ft. Sumner for several years. This is where she met her husband of 35 years. Ronda was a master barber having graduated from El Paso Barber College in 1989. She worked at Fort Bliss Officers Club Barber Shop for several years until the family moved to Farmington in 1991 where she worked at Mesa Barber Shop and Castro Barber shop in Flora Vista.

Ronda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved cooking at family gatherings and camping. She was a member of Copper Ridge Assembly of God church.

Ronda is in the arms of our heavenly Father and being greeted by family and friends that have gone on before her.

Ronda was proceeded in death by her parents, JW and Vera Wampler Smith; brother, James Smith; sister, Linda Malone; and great-grandson, Kaleb. She is survived by her brother, Harley (Cathy) Smith of Hewitt, Texas; her husband, Johnny of the home; two daughters, Renee (Jeff) Walker of Albuquerque and LaWanda Holcomb of Flora Vista; three sons, Joel (Candace) Holcomb of Oklahoma City, Johnathon of Farmington, and James (Jessica) of Pearsall, Texas; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren with one due next month. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Kidney Foundation, The American Heart Association, American Cancer Association, or Fort Sumner Cemetery.

Cremation will take place and a memorial service for Ronda will be Saturday, March 17 at Smith Family plot in the cemetery in Fort Sumner, N.M.
