Rose H. Curley, 94, of Toadlena, returned to our creator on Friday, November 3, 2023, in Shiprock at Northern Navajo Medical Center. She was born February 15, 1929, in Toadlena. She was Tse nahabilii (Sleep Rock Clan), born for Ma'ii Deeshgiiznii (Coyote Pass Clan).
Rose was a Two Grey Hills rug maker master weaver by trade and sheep rancher. She lived very humble in Toadlena and used the wool from her sheep to hand spin and weave her rugs which would often take many months to complete just one.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Curley; sons Phillip, James and Samual; her parents, Helena and Hosteen Nex Begay; brothers David H. Nez, Tsosie H. Nez and Ray H. Nez; sisters Betty H. Wilson.
She is survived by her daughters Marie and Katherine of Toadlena; sons Leonard of Toadlena, Virgil of Farmington. Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. at Toadlena LDS church in Toadlena, New Mexico followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. for family and friends. She will be interred at Toadlena Community Cemetery.
