In Loving Memory of Rosemarie “Rosie” Mestas

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rosemarie “Rosie” Mestas, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, mentor, and friend. She was a dedicated advocate for those in need, particularly through her work at the Cancer Center, where her compassion and unwavering support touched countless lives.

Rosemarie is survived by her loving husband, Michael; her children, Daicia and Jon (Shembra); and her cherished grandchildren, Milena, Simeon, and Dawsey. She also leaves behind her beloved mother, Frances, as well as her sisters, Pam (Carl), Tricia (Bill), and Mandi (Tony), along with their families. Rosemarie was preceded in death by her father, John Velasquez, whom she held close in her heart every day.

Born in Albuquerque, NM, Rosemarie grew up in a loving home and demonstrated resilience from a young age. After being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, her family relocated to California for treatment, an experience that shaped her into the fighter she remained throughout her life. Upon returning to Farmington, she embraced her role as a loving sister, known for her adventurous spirit and boundless energy.

Rosemarie’s life was forever changed when she met the love of her life, Michael Mestas. Married in 1986, they built a beautiful life together, raising their children with devotion and pride. She was an enthusiastic sports and dance mom, celebrating every achievement with unwavering support. One of her greatest joys was witnessing Daicia and Jon graduate with degrees in Engineering and Social Work, a testament to her dedication as a mother.

A true “Bulldog with Lipstick,” Rosemarie dedicated 36 years to the Cancer Center, where she became a fierce advocate for her patients. Her bold personality, infectious laughter, and compassionate heart made every patient feel valued and supported.

Above all, Rosemarie’s greatest joy was being “RORO” to her grandchildren. She embraced this role wholeheartedly, showering them—and many others she mentored—with love, wisdom, and boundless affection.

Her legacy of strength, love, and advocacy will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
