Stella Alicia Abeyta Lucero passed away from this life on earth on November 3, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones in Aztec New Mexico.
Stella was born to Margarita Valdez and Able Abeyta on June 15, 1929, in Tiffany Co. Stella Alicia Abeyta was the youngest of six siblings. Stella attended school in the Durango and Ignacio school districts. She Graduated from Ignacio High School in 1946. Stella A. Abeyta met the love of her life Salbador M. Lucero in 1946 and dated for 5 years. Stella and Salbador Lucero married on February 26, 1951, in Durango Co. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Stella and Salbador had seven children and lived in the Tiffany Colorado township where they raised their children. Stella was a homemaker where she loved taking care of her ill parents, children and tending to the garden. Stella was a gardener, she spent her retired days planting, watering, and harvesting the items from her garden. She also loved canning everything she could get her hands on. Stella was an artist in her own mind, she loved to spray paint everything the color “GOLD.” After her kids had grown, Stella returned to the Ignacio school district in 1977 as a teacher’s assistant where she retired in 1998 after 20 ½ years of service. Stella lived in Tiffany and Ignacio Colorado most of her life and in 2008 decided to move to Bloomfield NM to get closer to her family.
Stella is survived by her son Edward (Georgia) Lucero of Turley NM, daughter Margret Herrera of Ignacio Co, daughter Adelina (Chuck) Padilla of Farmington NM, daughter Kathleen Benally of Albuquerque NM, Twin grandsons: Erric (Michelle) Lucero of Bloomfield NM and Arron Lucero of Waterflow NM, and 17 other grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stella is preceded in death by her husband Salbador M. Lucero, Son Robert Lucero, twin daughters Annette and Lucille, her parents: Abel and Margarita Abeyta, Brother, and sisters: Beatrice Garcia, Juanita (Margie) Abeyta, John Abeyta, Evangelina Carabajal, Julia Garcia, Lilly Marquez, and great-grandson Brady Lucero and Son in-law Andres Herrera. Stella will have welcome arms when crossing over through the gates of Heaven.
Funeral Services will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on November 11, 2023. A public viewing will be from 8-9 am. A rosary will take place at 9:15am on November 11, 2023. Eulogy to follow the rosary. Church services will begin at 10:00am. Interment services will be at the Santa Rosa Cemetery.
