Steven Lee Funk

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Steven Lee Funk, who passed on February 8, 2025. Born on October 20, 1955, in Boise City, Oklahoma to Bud and Fran Funk. In 1974, Steve was cruising Main Street in Farmington, NM in his 1969 Chevelle, when he met the person who stole his heart - Sarah. From then on, they spent the next 49 years building a family, home, and life together. He was a devoted husband to Sarah and a proud father to Jessica Barela (Albert), their twins - Susan Herrera (Noah), Justin Funk (Allie), and then the baby, Adriane Huff (Shane). And his grandsons Lucas, Levi, and Logan Huff. His greatest pride was his family. He often would attribute the success of all his children to their faith and love in their God, Jehovah. Steve spent 34 years working for BHP mines, where he built a career defined by hard work, leadership, and perseverance. He started by pushing a broom and through determination and skill, worked his way up to supervising a team. His work ethic and mentorship left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his career, Steve was a complex man and had many things he enjoyed—whether it was the thrill of racing dirt bikes through the sand wash, jamming to his favorite Rock-n-Roll icons in his meticulous garage, or simply spending time with the love of his life, Sarah. Their bond was built on love and countless cherished moments. There was nowhere else that Steve wanted to be than home with Sarah and any of his loving, loyal dog companions. A remembrance of his life will be held at San Juan College - Henderson Fine Arts Building on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025, at 5:30 pm.
