We are saddened to announce the passing of Virginia Rae Gustin Piercey, 87, of Kirtland on March 30, 2025. She was born January 14, 1938 in Farmington to Hugh and Iva Sterling. Ginger was a loving and wonderful woman until the very end, she will be greatly missed.
Needing her car repaired, Ginger headed to the closest repair shop where she met her future husband, Bob. After traveling to Idaho to meet Bob’s parents, they decided to detour to Jackpot, Nevada to get married. They were married for 45 years and made their home in Kirtland.
Ginger’s favorite place to be was in her magical garden sanctuary that she had created. It was full of a variety of flowers, shrubs, trees and ornaments with walkways and even a small fish pond. Some of the plants were even transplanted from her mom’s beautiful garden.
Ginger loved to spoil her grandkids by making their Christmases extra special with lots and lots of presents and baked goodies. She loved to cook. She took them on special picnics at Easter in the huge arroyo on her mom and dad’s place.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents Hugh Lemuel Sterling and Iva Alzada Palmer, her brothers Bruce Sterling and Lynn Sterling, daughter Barbara Ann Gustin, son Gene Gustin and two great grandsons.
Ginger is survived by husband Robert Piercey, son Duane (Becky) Gustin, stepson Brian (Angela) Piercey, sister Ester Ludwick, sisters-in-law Barbara Sterling and Cathy Sterling. Granddaughters Krysty Scholes, Kelsea (Noel) Lozan, Shandra Gustin, Ginny (Tyler) Gustin and Tara (Matthew) Stapleton. Grandsons Cody Gustin, Daniel (Mindy) Gustin, Benjamin Lazenby (who was raised by Ginger and Bob after Barbara Ann’s death) and Chase Piercey. Also survived by 11 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
